The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is one of the largest and fastest growing Pentecostal churches in the world. It started in 1952 with just nine members but has today grown into a church with parishes spread across the five continents of the world.
The church was founded by Reverend Josiah Akindayomi in Lagos, Nigeria when the Lord established a covenant with the reverend that He would meet all the needs of the church if members would serve Him faithfully and be obedient to His word.
It is upon this covenant that The Redeemed Christian Church of God was born and built. It is founded on the tripod of prayer, holiness and evangelism. The mission of RCCG is to propagate the message of the Christian Scriptures around the world and to proclaim the salvation found in Christ. As a church, it seeks to convert lost souls and reconcile them with their Creator.
Rev. Akindayomi passed away in 1980 at the age of 71 at which time the leadership of the church was assumed by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who is still the current General Overseer of the church. Today, he is widely acknowledged as a spiritual leader to not only millions within the RCCG, but in other parts of Christendom.
Since its inception, RCCG has experienced an explosive growth in 140 countries around the world. In the United Kingdom, the church started in 1988, first as a House fellowship and then as a church in Angel area of London. It has now grown to over 375 parishes (branches) in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
