Detailed Information

The SSPCK was founded in 1709. Its purpose is to encourage the promotion of Christian knowledge in Scotland and overseas. It gives grants to mission projects primarily sponsored but not necessarily, by the Church of Scotland.

The SSPCK is a charitable membership organisation whose prime function is to award through Home and Foreign Funds, disbursements to worthy organisations and individuals within the terms of its charter.  The funds available shall be allocated at the sole discretion of the Directors.  With that in mind, the following are the objectives of the Funds:

  1. The Home Fund is for re-sourcing mission within Scotland, principally in the Highlands and Islands.
  2. The Foreign Fund is for:
  • The training and education of Christians in Commonwealth countries overseas, aimed to equip them for service in the mission and outreach of the Church.
  • The training of British young people volunteering for periods of service in Christian mission and education overseas.
  • The re-sourcing of new initiatives in worldwide Christian mission
