Sharing God’s love in Jesus Christ through friendship with the Asian Community.
Who are we? Asian Concern was founded in 1989 by a small group of Christians from different churches and from different Ethnic backgrounds with the aim of sharing God’s love in Jesus Christ through friendship with the Asian community in Edinburgh and the Lothians. We work through volunteers and presently have two honorary fieldworkers. Asian Concern is a registered Scottish charity (SCO 20697) and depends entirely on the financial support of its members, receiving no money from any public bodies.
What do we do? We pray. We believe that God answers prayers and we meet on the first Saturday of the month in Musselburgh to pray for our work.
We hold special events Our Christmas Mubarak includes a Christmas message, all-age entertainment and an Asian meal. Our Easter Mubarak takes the form of a church service on the evening of Palm Sunday. We also hold summer events and outings.
We hold pot-luck suppers To help us make friends we meet every few months for a social evening in one of our members’ homes, each person bringing their own food to share.
We teach English and offer practical help Spoken English is a problem for many in the Asian community. We can arrange individual teaching with a volunteer tutor. We can help and advise when there are difficulties with housing and employment, and in other ways.
